OVERVIEW
Child Health Nursing Department is a specialized field focused on providing nursing care to both healthy children and those with special needs. The primary goal is to prepare students to understand normal growth and development, identify deviations, and deliver comprehensive care to children and their families facing medical and surgical challenges.
Paediatric nurses are trained to work in diverse settings, from community health centres to hospitals and critical care units. The curriculum emphasizes key areas such as Embryology, Genetics, Psychology, Paediatric Medicine, Surgery, Neonatology, Nutrition, and Growth and Development.
The department has 197 beds with intensive care and emergency services, covering general pediatric medicine wards, pediatric surgery, pediatric oncology, and pediatric nephrology.The department provides rich clinical experiences. Students gain hands-on training in paediatric medical and surgical wards, including specialties like nephrology, haematology, and oncology. Postgraduate students further benefit from exposure to NICU, paediatric operation theatres, child guidance clinics, community settings, and child welfare organizations.
The Unit of Hope offers students invaluable experience in caring for children with special needs, while the department’s advanced facilities ensure familiarity with cutting-edge equipment and technology in paediatric intensive care.
Additionally, the department handles Nutrition for all first-year undergraduate nursing students, covering both theory and practical components.

Periodic training on Pediatric Life Support to students nurses and staff nurses. Over 500 nurses trained through PLS workshops.

Periodic staff development programs to improve nursing skills and patient care quality.
Nutrition practical:
Students prepare therapeutic and balanced diets to develop nutritional counselling skills and educate the roles of nutrition in health maintenance while taking care of patients.

Regular sessions conducted by students and staff to educate caregivers and promote child health.
Celebrations:
Annual celebrations like Ethnic Day, Children’s day and Teacher’s Day to foster a positive environment.
Workshops & conferences:
The department conducts workshops, including PLS, to update nurse educators, staff nurses, and students on current pediatric nursing practices. Also, encourage faculties and students to participate in various workshops and conferences.
Research presentations:
UG and PG nursing students regularly present their research findings to doctors and others healthcare professionals, promoting evidence-based practice.
