Learning Management System

The St. John’s Learning Portal is based on the OpenEDX platform widely used in many prestigious institutions around the world to cater to the learning needs of their students. The platform is learner centric, massively scalable and provides a comprehensive package for instructors to create engaging interactive teaching-learning modules to cater to a wide spectrum of the students’ learning needs. The introduction of a learning management system (LMS) aligns with the objectives of the new Competency Based Curriculum ’s thrust on self-directed learning and formative assessments and caters to the evolving learning needs and practices of the new batches of students.

The Journey

The institution implemented elearning for the students and the faculty in the mid-1990s with the use of TYRO – a learning management system developed by the TUFTS University. A need for an open source LMS with the features required for course co-ordination was felt. The current eLearning platform was envisaged and conceived by the Department of Medical Education under the leadership of Dr. John Stephen and brought to fruition through the administrative committee comprising Dr. Nachiket, Dr. Sejil, Dr. Rani and Dr. Dhinagaran with the help of SJMC DiCe team. The institutional eLearning platform “St. John’s Learning Portal” was inaugurated and launched by the Director of the academy, Rev. Fr. Paul Parathazham on 26th May 2023.
