Overview
Three-day Workshop in Data Management and Biostatistics This workshop was conducted from March 4th to 6th, 2014 as part of the NHLBI Centre of Excellence (CoE) activities in association with McMaster University, Canada. The Karnataka Medical Council awarded 6 credit hours for this workshop. Participants: Health care professionals including faculty, postgraduate and PhD students from medical, Nursing and pharmacy colleges from India. Objectives: To enhance basic knowledge of the participants and advance their skills in data management and biostatistics Method: The course methods included lectures and statistics practical, Study design and methods, Case report forms, Preparing tables, graphs and figures, Referencing software, Data management, Project management , writing research grants and writing for a journal. Statistics was taught as interactive lectures and practical. The topics covered were sampling and sample size, parametric tests, non parametric tests, correlation and regression. The candidates had access to a learning management system TYRO that runs on a platform called TUSK Developed by TUFTs University, Boston, USA. 56 candidates from 21 cities in India attended the workshop. The faculty was senior professors, statisticians and researchers from St. John’s Medical College and Research Institute who have extensive experience in the selected topics.
