Chronic kidney disease (CKD) refers is an irreversible decline in kidney function which may progressively worsen until kidney failure (end stage kidney disease) occurs requiring dialysis or kidney transplantation for survive. Although CKD in children is less common than in adults, patients present with several comorbidities related to uremia such as growth failure, anemia, bony deformities (renal rickets), high BP and learning difficulties. CKD in children occurs most frequently due to congenital abnormalities of kidney and bladder and is often diagnosed late or the diagnosis is missed due to a lack of awareness in the community and primary healthcare physician.
