Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is defined as abnormalities of kidney structure or function, present for more than 3 months, with implications for health. CKD encompasses a spectrum of pathophysiologic processes associated with abnormal kidney function and progressive decline in glomerular filtration rate (GFR). The condition is staged based on estimated GFRcr (eGFR using Serum Creatinine) and presence of kidney damage markers including albuminuria, urinary sediment abnormalities, electrolyte disorders, histological abnormalities or structural abnormalities detected by imaging.
