Professor Grade 1
Department of Psychiatry
I am a Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry, and Professor and Head Department of Medical Ethics, with over three decades of experience in clinical practice, teaching, and research. My clinical work focuses on adult psychiatry and I have extensive experience in the management of a wide spectrum of psychiatric disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
My primary area of expertise is the ethical dimensions of mental health care, including issues related to professional conduct and doctor–patient boundaries. I have been actively involved in academic scholarship, and faculty mentorship in both psychiatry and medical ethics.
I served as Head of the Department of Psychiatry from 2011 to 2015 and am currently serving as the Head of the Department of Medical Ethics, where I continue to lead initiatives in ethics education.
At the national level, I have been Co Chair and later Chair of the Indian Psychiatric Society’s Task Force on Boundary Guidelines in the doctor patient relationship. The work on sexual boundaries has been a landmark effort by the team and the National Medical Council ( NMC) has uploaded this onto their website.
My current academic and research interests include pharmacogenomics and its application to personalized psychiatric treatment, alongside ongoing work in psychiatric ethics and professional responsibility.
