Dr. Cecil R. Ross is a senior Haematologist with over three decades of experience in clinical haematology, bone marrow transplantation, and translational research. He established the hospital’s state‑of‑the‑art stem cell transplant facility in 2005 and has since led numerous successful autologous and allogenic transplants.
A graduate of St. John’s Medical College, Dr. Ross trained further in haematology at Christian Medical College (Vellore), Royal Free Hospital (London), and St. Louis University (USA). He has served St. John’s in various academic and leadership roles since 1986 and currently heads the Department of Clinical Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant.
Dr. Ross has been principal investigator in multiple international clinical trials on bleeding disorders, hemoglobinopathies, leukaemia, ( Blood Cancers) and infectious diseases. He has authored more than 100 peer‑reviewed publications in leading journals including The Lancet, New England Journal of Medicine, Blood, and Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis.
He is widely recognized for his contributions to haematology in India, serving on national task forces, mentoring postgraduate and doctoral students, and receiving honours such as the Malti Sathe Oration Award (2023) and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of Physicians of India (Karnataka Chapter).
